What I Wore: the Simply NYC Conference

What I Wore: the Simply NYC Conference

I had such an incredible time at the Simply NYC Fashion and Beauty Conference during New York Fashion Week. For the longest time, I debated if I wanted to go, if I wanted to reach out to brands for tickets to shows instead, and my approach this fashion week was going to be.

In the end, it was better for me to go to this conference, listen to some amazing panelist speak, and get acquainted with some of the brands that were going to be at the event. I got to hear from people such a Wendy from Wendy’s Look Book, Daniel Musto, Chaz Dean, and more! If you want to read an in-depth review on this conference, whether I would go again, and what the brand experience was like, the let me know! I would be more than happy to share that with you all!

For this post, I want to share with you all what I wore and the outfits I had almost ended up going with. Because this was my de-factor Fashion Week event, I felt as though I needed to pick an outfit that was genuine to my personal style, trendy and stylish, and comfortable to be in all day. Read on to get the breakdown on why I chose to wear what I wore!

the outfit: blue denim jumpsuit

trends featured: ruching, pearl embellishment, and pastel trenchcoats

I have always loved jumpsuits because they feel like one giant adult onesie to me. They can look extremely stylish and it’s almost impossible to have an uncomfortable jumpsuit! What I love about this jumpsuit is that it comes with a sash for a belted waist look. The waistband on the jumpsuit is extremely stretchy (the overall material of this jumpsuit is just extremely soft and stretchy), and the sash helps keep it tight and fitted around the waist.

Two trends that I also really wanted to try out was ruching and embellishments. I had seen some articles going around surrounding ruching as a new trend and I loved how subtle it is to have the ruching on the pants bottom. Generally, I don’t like to have new trends be the center of attention in my outfits because this typically means that when the trend passes, whatever clothing I bought with the trend will almost be a waste of money since it’s not timeless. This is why the ruching detail at the very bottom of the pants work! Not to mention, it allows for this jumpsuit to fit me perfectly (for reference, I’m 5’1″).

Another trend that I am absolutely in love with and might not let go of for a while is the pearl embellishments. I’m not sure what it is about pearl embellishments that I love so much, but it is a new favorite of mine! I have the most amazing jacket with pearl embellishments that I can’t wait to share with you guys in an upcoming blog post! These heels are trendier than what I would typically go for, but good heels that are comfortable, cute, and easy to walk in are so hard to come by. If you don’t like the embellishments or don’t stand by this trend, I recommend a simple pink heel of the same style without the embellishments. That would be a classic heel worth investing in!

The third trend of this outfit that I’m surprised is considered a new Spring 2018 trend is pastel trench coats. Of course, trench coats are always stylish and will never go out of style. The difference with what I have seen from a lot of fashion designers and style influencers is this influx of pastel trench coats.

Personally, I have always loved pastel trench coats, or any trench coats of a color separate from the traditional beige. That is probably why I don’t own a traditional beige trench coat; I’m too obsessed with the pastels! This coat is 3 years old, and I bought it at Forever21. I have to admit that the quality hasn’t entirely held up these 3 years, and I needed to do some hand stitching to reinforce some of the seams, but the look of a pale pink trench coat still looks just as stylish to me 3 years ago as it does now!

alternative outfit #1: gray maxi skirt with gold booties

trend featured: midi and maxi skirts paired with booties

There are 2 reasons why I wanted to wear this outfit and 2 reasons why I ultimately ruled it out.

I wanted to wear this outfit because I have been dying to wear this skirt from Missguided. I bought it ages ago and recently found it again in my closet when I was doing a clean out of my closet over the Holiday season. This skirt was almost featured in my post on Holiday looks, but I ended up going with the beautiful red skirt that was so prominently featured. The other reason I wanted to wear this outfit is because I realized that the new style of midi and maxi skirts with booties is a style I can definitely get on board with. It requires no additional purchase of clothes; all it needs are two things that I love already (midi/maxi skirts and booties).

I eliminated this outfit from contention because although I love this shirt (that is also several years old from Express) and I love this skirt, I wasn’t sure they worked perfectly together. I also felt as though this outfit paired together was a bit bland, and none of the accessories I owned really made the outfit look how I want to. Another reason why I ultimately felt sure it was a good choice that I didn’t wear this was because it was raining on the day of the conference. It would have been a mess to have, well, a messy hem from the rain!

alternative outfit #2: bandage crop top and pinstriped pants

trends featured: trash bag waist

This look was a look that I really loved putting together, but it was also a look I didn’t feel the utmost confident in. Let me explain.

These pants are such a staple in my closet. I can dress them down and I can dress them up. I was dying to try this out in a non-corporate job style, and the waist is a very subtle trash bag waist that I am in love with. The pinstripes are to die for, and these pants not only fit me perfectly for my height, but they are also extremely comfortable.

I counted this outfit out simply because I wasn’t confident in my stomach and middle area. I still have some weight there in that middle section I want to lose, and I know that wearing a crop top such as this with such a large middle section left bare wouldn’t look as good as if I had perfectly sculpted abs. Thus, it was a no-go for this outfit.

Not to mention, these wedges are super cute but also super high. I wasn’t sure I would have been able to keep my balance in the wet and slippery sidewalks after the rain!

I do believe I made the right choice with the last outfit I put together. The comfort, confidence, and subtle showcasing of new trends all meant a perfect outfit!
