Look For Less: Versace Spring 2018 (the Tribute to Gianni Versace)

Look For Less: Versace Spring 2018 (the Tribute to Gianni Versace)

This is something I have been dreaming about creating ever since I saw Donatella Versace’s tribute to her brother, Gianni Versace. The idea behind Versace’s Spring 2018 collection is a throwback and tribute to the designs and looks of Versace when Gianni was the creative mastermind. Donatella fused modern elements of what is new and upcoming with the classic; if Chanel’s tweed is their iconic look, then the Medusa head is Versace’s iconic look.

The three key pieces that I focused on with recreating Donatella’s beautiful collection are: pastels, black, and gold prints. I wish I had the funds to buy the actual pieces for myself, but since my funds are currently limited, this is the next best thing. I hope that by the end of this post, you will have an idea of how you can put together a look inspired by Versace at an affordable price range!

I want to point out a few themes in this beautiful collection. Donatella Versace created a collection with such versatility and featuring only four classic themes: the classic Versace print in gold, black, pastels, and the Western trend. Personally for me, I love what she did with this collection because we are getting such a wide range from her. This is hands down my favorite collection of the Spring 2018 collections.

To give you some ideas on how to create a look for less inspired by this collection (without buying knockoffs), I would recommend starting with the four themes that she used. Have fun creating looks that mix pastels with gold prints, and definitely try out the black and gold color scheme. The great thing about this collection is that she is featuring so many pieces that are easily wearable (classic LBDs, blazer dresses, pleated skirts, etc.). We are also getting a classic look at how pastels are such a huge theme for any Spring looks. Wear pastel and you really can’t go wrong! Lastly, I want to point out the Western trend that is quite heavily featured.I personally love this trend and have wrote extensively on this topic, if you want to read more!

My Looks Inspired by Versace

I paired this white and blue bustier top with  high-waisted pastel pink pants. I threw a black leather jacket over to keep me warm, and I finished the look off with some gold loafers.

The great part of a look inspired by designer fashion or recreating a look for less is that it doesn’t have to be so especially obvious that you’re trying to recreate a designer look. For folks like me who don’t have the funds to buy designer items, designer fashion is great as a source of inspiration, and that is exactly what I did.

The first out of two looks I created used elements from three out of the four themes featured in this collection: pastels, black, and a gold print. I found this amazing gold chain print top from Misguided. At first, it actually reminded me of the classic print from Ralph Lauren, but I went with it anyway because this is the point of creating a look based on inspiration. It doesn’t have to be an exact science, and there are no rules!

The second look I created was more straight forward, and depending on what your style is, more wearable because of it is a fairly monochromatic look.

I found another top in black featuring the chain print, and luckily, I was able to snatch it up before it was sold out in my size. I paired it with this beautiful pair of black pants of almost a faux leather material to give it that almost wet look. The look was finished off with my same gold loafers.
