Look For Less: Chanel Resort 2018

Look For Less: Chanel Resort 2018

What captivated me about Chanel from the very beginning was Chanel’s timelessness.

As an example, the Chanel suit of Jackie O is so iconic and so influential to an entire generation. Without even knowing anything about Chanel, I immediately started to recognize it in fashion magazines. Karl Lagerfeld takes us back to Ancient Greece in the Chanel Resort 2018 Collection, and I have to say, I am in love!

I wanted to dedicate this post to a collection that has completely taken my breath away. There’s something so beautiful about the Chanel Resort 2018 collection as it recreates and takes us back to Ancient Greece. To save you a Google search, a resort collection (also known as  “pre-collection”) is the collection that comes between the Fall/Winter collection and the Spring/Summer collection. They used to be considered a “filler” collection, until the industry shifted towards a higher demand for “ready to wear” collections.

After the shift in demand, resort collections became even more important given that the sales volume has dramatically increased. This Resort 2018 collection demonstrates a value different than the traditional F/W or S/S collections; this resort collection showcases an accessibility and ready-to-wear energy from the luxury fashion houses.

With that being said, it makes sense (to me, at least) why Karl Lagerfeld designed this collection with Ancient Greece in mind. The prominence of Greco-Roman influences in Western civilization cannot be missed and has become so commonplace that we almost seem to forget just how big a role Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire plays in our day to day lives.

The entire collection’s style and inspiration is easily adaptable for day-to-day street wear as evidenced by the long pleated skirts, gladiator sandals, and the classic Chanel tweed.

The cat-eye liner paired with the horizontal prints on certain pieces almost remind us of Ancient Egypt, and when we see the bright pops of colors like turquoise blue, I can see the aspect of how Resort collections are typically transitional pieces of the wardrobe.

I drew inspiration from this collection and wanted to highlight the key aspects of this collection: white, pleated material, accents of gold, and gladiator sandals. There were so many ideas swirling in my mind of how I can use the pieces in my closet to recreate a look inspired by this Resort 2018 collection. This look, however, stayed truest (in my mind) to what Karl Lagerfeld had imagined.

Instead of wearing pink or red this February, wear some white and soft creams. Instead of wearing a hat, choose a headband (this collection features so many different colors, material, and texture). Instead of debating what new pair of booties to buy, take a chance and whip out those gladiator sandals we all have.

This collection is something so beautiful and iconic yet adaptable that I have to give a standing ovation to Lagerfeld and the entire Chanel team on an amazing collection.

Share your pictures of how you would wear this Ancient Greece-inspired style! I would love to see what you come up with!
