3 Transitional Coats for Spring

3 Transitional Coats for Spring

Spring is a wonderful time of year. We can all say goodbye to the cold, the weather is starting to get warm, and flowers are blooming again. There is so much chatter regarding the new Spring trends, but something that I find is often overlooked is what sort of transitional coats we should be wearing when the weather turns from the 30s and 40s to the 50s and 60s.

In this post, I’m sharing three coats that I find absolutely wonderful for this time of year when we’re all gearing up for Spring and warm weather. One coat that I will not be featuring is the pink trench coat I wore to the Simply NYC Fashion and Beauty Conference. I talked a bit about this coat already in that post; check out what I had to say about my outfit that day if you’re interested in the trench coat trend for the Spring!

the teddy bear coat

My teddy bear coat is my favorite transitional coat for this season. What I love about teddy bear coats is that they are so soft, cozy, and cute. They feel like you’re wrapped in a blanket, but you also look pretty dang cute wearing one! The reason that I don’t recommend this jacket for Winter is because most of the time, the material won’t be thick enough for you to be able to withstand the cold winds and temperatures of Winter.

These coats are meant to be different than faux fur coats. Faux fur can come in a variety of types (you have the ones with short fur, long fur, and everything in between). Teddy bear coats should and are meant to remind you of a teddy bear. They’re great for snuggling with, staying warm in, and looking like you never left your bed!

The coat I have is from Vici Collection that is currently sold out. If you’re interested in this coat, Vici has an option where you can enter in your email address to get notified when this coat is back in stock, and I love this tool just in case something super cute does come back in stock (no, this post isn’t sponsored – I just love Vici!).

Depending on how warm or cold it will be, I recommend wearing a light long sleeve shirt underneath (think tunic materials and breezy tops) because this ensures that I have that just the perfect amount of extra layers to keep warm; the idea behind transitional coats is that you’re not dragging around a big, padded puffer jacket with you around when you’re probably going to be super hot underneath.

the light wool coat

Wool coats are great in the Winter for keeping warm, but you’ll often find that wool coats are going to be made from a thick material with a lot of padding to keep you warm when the weather outside is absolutely frightful. The great thing about wool is that it is so versatile, and going with a coat that is made of wool but lighter material is going to be the ultimate transitional coat.

This is the safest bet because you’ll find that it’s easier to stay warmer and it gives you the option of whipping out those short sleeves or sleeveless tops and forego the long sleeves. I also find that wool coats typically go on sale when Winter is nearing because all of the stores are trying to get rid of their Winter stock; you just might find a great lighter wool coat for cheap!

My coat is from Missguided, and I bought it last Fall. Exactly as I said about how these coats will go on sale this season, this coat is on sale for 50% off! It really doesn’t get any better than that: a great transitional coat AND you save money.

the oversized denim jacket

I’ll admit; this transitional coat is really more of something you’ll wear when the weather is solidly in the mid to high 50s or if you’re more comfortable in the cold. Nevertheless, I included it for the purposes of this post because denim jackets are such a great staple to have in your closet, and I am so happy that they’re making a comeback!

There are so many great styles out there, and I’ve linked a few different types below. My jacket is from the Missguided X Carli Bybel Collection, and it is currently sold out. I have found another one that is a splurge but it is very similar with the same beading embellishments (the beading is what makes these so expensive), but if you’re not into splurging, there are some great options for a really great price.

I recommend buying an oversized one simply because I am of the opinion that if a coat covers my bottoms even slightly, I am going to be warmer. I’m not sure why I have that thinking or why I’m always warmer when wearing a coat that covers my bottoms, but it is the truth! The oversized look is also great for if you want to wear shorts, leggings, or any other type of pants that aren’t your standard denim jeans (I have a guide to all the different types of pants that are not jeans on my blog!)

That is it for this post! I hope you found my insight into what jackets I’ll be wearing helpful and that the products I’ve linked have given you inspiration for what you can find out there! It’s such a passion for me to be able to put together guides like this, and if they helped even one person, then I’ve done my job!
